Escape to Moominvalley explores Tove Jansson’s meaningful places and the Moomins’ ways of living and shaping their surroundings
Author, illustrator, and artist Tove Jansson created Moominvalley during dark times, in the midst of the Winter War and the bombing of Helsinki. The world in the Moomin books became a refuge for both Jansson herself and her readers. Alongside this imaginative world, Jansson also created real-life places that were important to her and her close circle, places where she could live and work in her own way. These real and imagined spaces are the focus of the Architecture & Design Museum’s exhibition Escape to Moominvalley (10th October 2025 – 27th September 2026).
